This policy explains what personal data wishdo.io collects, why, where it goes, how long it is kept and how you can control it. It covers the website wishdo.io, the wishdo.io apps for iOS and Android, our emails and notifications, the Telegram bot and the browser extension (together, the “Service”). We tried to write it so that it can be read, not only signed.
1. Who is responsible
The controller of your personal data (“we”, “us”) is Andrei Romaha, a private individual based in the Republic of Moldova, who runs the Service. For any question about your data, write to [email protected]. We answer within one month.
2. What we collect and why
Your account
Sign-up data: email, password (stored only as a hash), first and last name, nickname. If you sign in with Apple, Google, Facebook, Pinterest or Telegram, we receive your name, email (Telegram does not share one) and profile photo from that service; Apple shares no photo and may give us a private relay address instead of your real email.
Profile you choose to fill in: photo and cover, description, links to your social networks, phone number, date of birth (so that people who follow you get a reminder before your birthday), country (also set automatically from the country you sign in from), language and currency.
Time zone: taken from your browser automatically (you can set it by hand in the settings) so that reminders and dates come in your local time and letters are not sent at night.
Settings: privacy of the profile and lists, whether you appear in search, surprise mode, booking without an account, notification preferences.
Security: login history (date, country, device and browser; the IP address is stored encrypted) and the list of devices you are signed in on, so you can see and end sessions. Two-factor authentication, if you turn it on.
Why: to create and run your account and provide the Service (performance of the contract), and to keep accounts safe (legitimate interest).
What you create
Wishes, wishlists and collections: titles, descriptions, links, prices, photos, visibility, archive, bookings of your wishes.
Comments and reviews, likes, follows, reports you send.
Gift certificates you create: names “to” and “from”, a note, amount, design.
Secret Santa rooms you organise or join: names, budget, exchange date, the wishlist you pick, anonymous messages between Santa and recipient.
Files you import and product pages you save through the browser extension or the Telegram bot.
Why: this is the Service itself (performance of the contract).
If you use wishdo.io without an account
Booking a gift as a guest: the name and email you leave (both optional). We send you a letter with a link to cancel the booking.
A gift certificate without an account: what you put on it. The link lives 30 days.
Secret Santa as a guest: the name you give, the email the organiser entered to invite you, your wishes and messages in the game.
A browser key: a random identifier in the cookie wd_vouchers that lets this device find what you made without an account and move it into an account if you register.
Reports from guests: the report itself, the browser key and a keyed hash of the IP address (not the address) to stop abuse.
Gift certificates of brands
When a brand issues its gift certificate to you, it enters your email so that the code reaches you. The brand sees this email in its list of issued certificates to check and redeem the code. The purchase, payment, validity and refunds are between you and the brand; for your email in its list the brand acts as a separate controller.
Statistics and how the Service is used
Our own counter: which pages are opened, from which site the visit came and the campaign tag, device type and country (from the network address, which we do not store). With your permission for analytics cookies it recognises a visit with the wd_visit identifier for 30 days; without it, a page view is counted without any identifier.
Where you came from when you signed up: with your account we keep the site you came from, the campaign tag of your first visit, whether you came from a Google ad and whether the account was made on the site or in the app — to see which channels bring people. If you have allowed advertising cookies, we also keep the identifier of that click on the Google ad, so that the sign-up can be reported to Google Ads.
Views of wishes and profiles are counted for the statistics owners see. With your permission a view is counted once per visitor using the eloquent_viewable cookie; without it, without the cookie.
Clicks to shops through our redirect page, search queries and what you viewed and liked, to show relevant recommendations.
Email delivery: whether a letter was delivered or bounced, so we stop writing to addresses that do not work. We do not track whether letters are opened.
Google Analytics and Google Ads (see section 5).
Why: to understand and improve the Service, show owners their statistics and suggest wishes (legitimate interest); analytics and advertising cookies — only with your consent.
Notifications
We send emails about what happens with your lists, bookings, certificates and games, and — if you allow it in the browser — push notifications. Between 22:00 and 08:00 your local time these letters and pushes wait until morning; letters you ask for yourself, such as email confirmation or a password reset, come at once. Notification letters carry a link to unsubscribe from that kind of letter, and all categories are chosen in the settings.
Contacting us
Messages from the contact form (name, email, message; stored encrypted, plus a keyed hash of the IP address, not the address itself, to stop abuse) and requests to delete or export data. Messages sent with “Write to us” on the site or in the app, and answers to the short questions we sometimes ask inside the Service (a card in the feed, a question in notifications, a rating from 1 to 5 after adding a wish), are kept in the same way, together with the kind of page or app screen you wrote from, the language and, for the app, the platform and app version; you choose whether we may reply to you by email. We also note when we asked a question and whether you answered or closed it, so as not to ask too often; these notes are kept while you have an account. Why: to answer you and to improve the Service (legitimate interest).
What we do not collect
We do not ask for special categories of data (health, religion, political views and so on) and do not process payments: there are no card or bank details on wishdo.io.
3. Who can see what
Lists and wishes with the visibility All, and open profiles, are visible to everyone, appear in the site search and can be found through search engines unless you turn off “Show profile in search results”. Open profiles may be shown on the home page, and a preview picture is made for sharing links in messengers.
A closed profile is visible only to the followers whose requests you have accepted.
By link — visible only to people who have the secret link; not shown in the profile, search or search engines. Reissuing the link closes the old one.
Only me — visible only to you.
Bookings are anonymous: the owner of a list and other visitors see that a wish is taken, not by whom. When a gift is marked as given, the owner sees who gave it and may choose to show this to others. In surprise mode the owner does not see bookings at all.
In Secret Santa nobody, including the organiser, sees who got whom.
When you press “Translate”, the text of a comment or wish is sent to DeepL for translation.
4. Automated decisions
What you upload and what you write are checked automatically by a moderation model of OpenAI. Every photo we store is checked, including photos in closed lists and wishes: the file lies on our servers. Text is checked only when it is addressed to others — titles and descriptions of wishes, lists and collections that are open or shared by link, comments and reviews, your nickname and profile description, a brand’s name and description. Text in closed records and messages between a Santa and their recipient are not sent anywhere.
A clear-cut hit — sexual content involving minors, a direct threat, a call to a violent crime, instructions for self-harm — hides the record at once and blocks its author’s account: nothing is deleted, and a moderator can bring both back. Nudity or sexual content in a photo marks only that wish 18+, not its author; in a profile photo or cover, it hides the photo and cover from others — until a moderator reviews it. Everything else is only shown to a moderator, and the record stays visible until a person decides.
Recommendations are chosen automatically from what you view and like. Apart from the automatic block described above, none of this has legal effects for you; write to us to have any decision, including a block, reviewed by a person.
5. Cookies and similar technologies
Necessary cookies keep the site working and are always on. Everything else — functional, analytics and marketing — works only with your consent, which you give or refuse in the banner and can change at any time in the “Cookie settings” (link in the menu and at the bottom of the site). Before you decide, nothing optional is stored on your device.
Google Analytics and Google Ads load in Google Consent Mode: until you allow them, they set no cookies, but Google still receives the page address, the technical data of the request and the fact that an account was created, to model statistics without identifying you. The sign-in prompt of Google (One Tap) appears only with the functional permission. When you withdraw consent, the cookies already set by these services are removed.

6. Who receives data
We do not sell personal data. Data reaches other companies only to run the Service:
Hetzner (Finland, EU) — the servers where the site, database, search and our own mail server run.
Cloudflare — network protection and delivery of the site; sees the IP address of every request and determines the country. Its Turnstile check protects the contact form from bots.
Google (USA) — Analytics and Ads (section 5), sign-in with Google and One Tap.
Apple, Meta (Facebook), Pinterest, Telegram — sign-in, if you choose it; the Telegram bot, if you use it (chat identifiers and the links you send); our team also gets alerts about new reports in a Telegram chat (what was reported and why, the comment and the nicknames of the people involved).
Mailgun (USA) — delivery of email confirmation and password reset letters. All other letters are sent from our own mail server.
Push services of browser makers (Google, Mozilla, Apple, Microsoft) — deliver push notifications; the text is encrypted.
Sentry (USA) — reports about server errors; configured not to collect personal data.
DeepL (Germany) — translation of a text when you press “Translate”.
OpenAI (USA) — the automated check of photos and of texts visible to others (section 4). According to its own terms, data sent through its API is not used to train its models.
Admitad — an affiliate network: when you open a shop through a partner link, you pass through its tracker, which may set its own cookies.
Awin — an affiliate network: when you open a shop through a partner link, you pass through its tracker, which may set its own cookies.
Brands — your email, if a brand issues its certificate to you (section 2).
Authorities — when the law requires it.
Providers outside the EU receive data under the EU–U.S. Data Privacy Framework, where the provider is certified, or under the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
7. How long we keep data
Account and everything in it — while the account exists. After you delete it, see section 8.
Accounts not used for three years — we send a letter; if you do not sign in within 30 days, the account is deleted.
Views of wishes and profiles — after 12 months, clicks to shops — after 13 months: the link to a person or session is removed, the counts stay.
Our own statistics events — 13 months.
Identifier of a click on a Google ad — 90 days after the click; the mark that you came from an ad stays with the account.
Guest name and email in a booking, email of a certificate buyer, emails and messages in Secret Santa — 30 days after the booking, certificate or game has ended.
A gift certificate made without an account — deleted 30 days after it expired or was used.
Telegram bot: data of people who have not connected an account — 30 days after their last message to the bot; groups that were never connected — 90 days after the last activity.
Messages from the contact form, “Write to us” and answers to our questions — 24 months; if you delete your account, they are deleted with it.
Records of your cookie choice — 24 months after the choice expired or was replaced.
Data export file — 7 days.
Server logs — 30 days; backup copies — up to 7 days.
If an account was blocked for violations and then deleted, we keep a keyed hash of its email and the reason for 2 years so that it cannot be registered again right away.
8. Deleting your account
You can delete the account in the settings — it is deleted right away. If you cannot sign in, ask for deletion at wishdo.io/data-deletion: after you confirm your email, we review the request within a month and delete the account as soon as it is approved. Deletion cannot be undone:
your profile, photos, wishes, lists, collections, brand profile, login and search history, devices, notifications and tokens are erased;
your comments, bookings of other people’s wishes and your place in an ongoing Secret Santa stay where they are, but under “Deleted account”, so other people’s lists and games do not break;
if you run a brand, the gift certificates it has issued stay with the people who hold them, and the buyers’ emails are removed from the brand’s list.
9. Your rights
You have the right to access your data and get a copy, to correct it, to delete it, to restrict or object to processing (including profiling for recommendations), to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting what was done before.
A full copy of your data in JSON can be requested at wishdo.io/data-deletion (choose “Data portability request”). For everything else write to [email protected]. You can also complain to the National Center for Personal Data Protection of the Republic of Moldova or to the data protection authority of the country where you live.
10. Children
wishdo.io is only for people aged 16 and over, on the site and in the apps: the Service does not accept a date of birth under 16, and if we learn that an account belongs to someone younger, we delete it together with its data. If you believe a child under 16 has given us data, write to [email protected] and we will delete it. Content that sexualises minors is removed immediately and reported to the authorities.
11. Security
Connections are encrypted. Sensitive fields — phone number, login IP addresses, contact form messages and deletion requests — are encrypted in the database; IP addresses in consent records are stored only as keyed hashes. Personal data in our admin panel is hidden by default, can be revealed only by a few roles and every reveal is logged. No system is perfectly secure; if you think your account has been compromised, write to [email protected] at once.
12. Browser extension and Telegram bot
The extension reads the page of a product only when you press its button and sends the page address, title, price, currency, description and image address to wishdo.io to create a wish. It does not track browsing. The access token is kept in the browser and expires after 180 days or when you sign out.
The Telegram bot keeps your Telegram identifier, the language of your Telegram app and whether you have written to it privately. A link you send before signing in is kept for 24 hours so that it can be saved once you sign in. Your Telegram name and username are stored only while the bot is connected to your wishdo.io account and are removed when you disconnect it or delete the account. The bot reads the links you send it to add wishes. In a group it sees only commands and replies addressed to it, keeps the group’s identifier, title and the collection connected to it, and can be connected only by a group administrator.
13. Changes
We update this policy when the Service changes; the date at the top shows the latest version. When the change matters for your choices, we will ask for your cookie consent again or let you know on the site or by email.
14. Contact
[email protected] — for questions about this policy, your data and your rights.
We use cookies
Necessary cookies keep the site working. The others help us understand how you use wishdo and are switched on only with your consent.
